The Special Projects Risk Management (SPRM) Group is a Cape Town-based health and safety consulting firm established in 2004 by Carel Barnard and Joyce Hess. With over 5,500 projects completed, SPRM provides professional OHS services to corporate clients, construction companies, event organisers, government departments, municipalities, private developers, and the agricultural sector. Notable projects include health and safety management for the implosion of the Athlone Power Station cooling towers, the KKNK arts festival, the Zandvliet wastewater treatment plant, and the 12-storey Tulip Hotel implosion. In 2016, SPRM split into two entities: SPRM for corporate and event H&S, and Ad Astra Health and Safety (Pty) Ltd focused on construction H&S. The group is led by experienced consultants including industry veterans Ivan Bester and Koos Coetzee.
