BioRePeel: The Italian No-Downtime Peel That's Replacing TCA

Traditional chemical peels work, but they come with a cost: visible peeling, redness, and a week or more of social downtime. BioRePeel is different. It delivers a comparable level of resurfacing without the flaking, in a 5-minute application that you can have on your lunch break.

Italian-developed and increasingly popular across the South African aesthetics market, BioRePeel was specifically designed to bridge the gap between superficial home-style acids and the more aggressive medium-depth peels of the past decade. The result is a treatment that suits busy clients, sits on the menu of even cautious clinics, and works on a wider range of skin types than older TCA protocols.

What is in it

BioRePeel is a biphasic peel containing 35% TCA (trichloroacetic acid) plus salicylic acid, lactobionic acid, tartaric acid, GABA, and a complex of amino acids. The biphasic structure is the trick - the lipid phase shields the surface while the aqueous phase delivers acids deeper, where they act on the dermis without surface damage.

The acid composition delivers a layered effect:

  • TCA at 35% - the resurfacing workhorse, normally aggressive but here moderated by the biphasic carrier
  • Salicylic acid - lipophilic, penetrates oily skin and sebaceous follicles
  • Lactobionic acid - polyhydroxy acid, gentle exfoliation with antioxidant action
  • Tartaric acid - mild AHA, brightening and texture refinement
  • GABA - amino acid with calming and anti-inflammatory properties
  • Amino acid complex - supports skin barrier repair and collagen synthesis

What it does

  • Exfoliates congested, dull surface skin
  • Biostimulates fibroblasts to produce new collagen and elastin
  • Brightens pigmentation and post-acne marks
  • Refines open pores and uneven texture
  • Hydrates through the amino acid and GABA components
  • Boosts the absorption of subsequent topical actives

What it treats

Acne and acne scarring, fine lines, uneven texture, sun damage, dull skin, post-inflammatory pigmentation, stretch marks (off-face). It is also safe to use on the neck, décolletage, and hands - areas often neglected by traditional peel protocols. Many clients book a series across the face plus neck and décolletage to address visible ageing in those typically untreated zones.

Why no downtime

The 35% TCA in BioRePeel is engineered to release gradually, never reaching the surface concentration that triggers visible peeling. Most clients experience mild tingling during application, slight pinkness for an hour afterwards, and that is it. Makeup the same evening, no flaking, no social hibernation.

The biphasic structure works by shielding the stratum corneum (dead skin layer) with a lipid phase while the active acids penetrate into the deeper layers in an aqueous carrier. The end result is dermal resurfacing without epidermal sloughing - the holy grail that traditional TCA chemistry could not deliver.

What a session feels like

The therapist applies the product in a thin film, massages it into the skin for two to five minutes (the longer the massage, the deeper the action), and then wipes the residual film off. A mild tingling or warm sensation during application, settling within minutes of removal. No anaesthetic required.

Course recommendation

Four sessions, one week apart, for the most dramatic results, followed by maintenance every four to six weeks. Pairs exceptionally well with monthly diamond microdermabrasion for clients wanting a comprehensive resurfacing programme. For clients with active acne, the spacing may be tightened to every five days during the most active phase.

Suitable for most skin types

One of BioRePeel's strengths is that it can be safely used on Fitzpatrick I through V, including darker skin tones where traditional TCA peels are usually contraindicated. The risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation is dramatically lower than with traditional TCA at the same concentration. Pregnancy, active dermatitis, recent isotretinoin use, and active herpes simplex outbreaks remain contraindications.

Pre-treatment preparation

  • Stop retinol and exfoliating acid home care for three days before
  • Avoid sun exposure and tanning beds for two weeks before
  • Inform your therapist of any photosensitising medications
  • Stop topical antibiotics or active ingredients the therapist flags
  • Arrive with clean, makeup-free skin if possible

Post-treatment care

  • Daily broad-spectrum SPF 50 for the next two weeks
  • Resume retinol and acid home care after seven days
  • Hyaluronic acid and barrier-supporting moisturiser for the first week
  • No swimming, sauna or steam for 48 hours
  • No microdermabrasion, microneedling or other resurfacing in the same week

BioRePeel for active acne

BioRePeel is one of the more useful in-clinic treatments for active inflammatory acne. The salicylic acid component penetrates the sebaceous follicles, the TCA gently resurfaces the post-inflammatory marks, and the GABA and amino acid components calm the inflammation that drives ongoing breakouts. Clients with active acne typically see improvement after the second session, with significant reduction by the fourth.

BioRePeel versus other options

  • Glycolic peels - gentler, faster, but less effective on dermal concerns. Better for ongoing maintenance than transformative resurfacing.
  • Traditional TCA peels - more aggressive resurfacing but with significant downtime and higher PIH risk.
  • Microneedling - reaches deeper into the dermis but with one to three days of redness. Pairs well with BioRePeel in alternating cycles.
  • Mela-Vita peel - more pigmentation-specific, gentler. Better for hormonal melasma where BioRePeel may be too active.

Combining with other treatments

Most effective combinations:

  • BioRePeel + monthly diamond microdermabrasion for ongoing maintenance
  • BioRePeel + LED light therapy in the same session - red light immediately after the peel maximises the collagen-stimulating benefit
  • BioRePeel + microneedling in alternating cycles for clients with significant acne scarring
