The Lunchtime Facelift: Non-Surgical Lifting in 60 Minutes
The phrase "lunchtime facelift" gets thrown around loosely. At Soma Laser, it refers to a specific multi-modality protocol - radiofrequency, ultrasound, microcurrent and LED - designed to lift, tighten and contour in a single 60-minute session, with no needles, no downtime, and visible results from session one. Done well, it sits alongside surgical and injectable options as a credible third path; done poorly, it is just a glorified facial.
What each modality does
Radiofrequency (RF): heats the deeper dermis to 40-42°C, denaturing existing collagen fibres so they contract immediately, while triggering fibroblasts to produce new collagen over the following weeks. The contraction is the immediate visible effect; the new collagen synthesis is what extends the result over three to six months.
Ultrasound: reaches the SMAS layer (the same layer surgeons tighten in a traditional facelift) without damaging the surface skin. This is what produces the genuine lift. The depth of the ultrasound is set by the technology - typically 1.5mm, 3mm and 4.5mm focal depths are used in sequence to address different anatomical layers.
Microcurrent: stimulates the underlying facial muscles, restoring tone the way targeted exercise restores body muscle. Over a course of sessions, the cumulative effect noticeably contours the jawline and cheekbones. Microcurrent is also gentle on the skin barrier and produces no inflammation, making it a good closing modality after the more thermal earlier steps.
LED light therapy: red light to boost collagen, near-infrared to calm inflammation and accelerate recovery. LED at the end of the session reduces any redness from the RF and ultrasound and primes the skin for the recovery phase.
The 60-minute structure
- Cleanse and skin prep - 5 minutes
- Radiofrequency pass across face, neck and décolletage - 15 minutes
- Ultrasound at multiple focal depths, focused on jawline, cheek bands and brow - 15 minutes
- Microcurrent toning sweep along the muscle motor points - 15 minutes
- LED red and near-infrared finish - 8 minutes
- Hydrating mask and skin sealing - 2 minutes
Who it suits
- Clients in their late 30s to 60s seeing early laxity around the jawline, jowls, or eye area
- Anyone wanting a preventative anti-ageing protocol without injectables
- Clients post-cosmetic procedure looking for non-invasive maintenance between treatments
- Brides and special events - the immediate lift is ideal 3 to 5 days before
- Clients who cannot have injectables for medical reasons (autoimmune, certain medications)
- Clients building a non-surgical skincare practice for the long term
What it will not do
It will not replicate a surgical facelift, dissolve fat deposits, or fill volume loss. For deeper structural change, it pairs well with injectables managed by a registered medical practitioner - but for clients seeking natural-looking maintenance, it stands alone.
Specifically, the lunchtime facelift cannot:
- Add volume to flat or hollow cheeks
- Lift heavily descended brow tissue
- Address severe submental (under-chin) laxity
- Improve deeply set static wrinkles caused by structural bone change
How many sessions?
You will see visible results after the first session - that is the immediate collagen contraction. Real, lasting change comes from a course of 6 to 8 sessions weekly or fortnightly, then maintenance every 4 to 6 weeks. Thinking about it as a course rather than a one-off treatment is the difference between a useful glow and a meaningfully different appearance.
What you will see at each phase
- Session 1 - immediate glow, slight tightening, more pronounced cheek contour
- Sessions 2-4 - cumulative firming, less visible jawline laxity, brighter overall complexion
- Sessions 5-8 - peak result, neck and décolletage improvements visible, friends notice
- Maintenance phase - holds the gains, gentle continued improvement over the long term
What it feels like
The radiofrequency phase produces a deep warming sensation, occasionally hot in zones over the cheekbones or jawline. Ultrasound is felt as discrete pulses with mild discomfort at the deeper focal depths - some clients describe it as small electrical taps. Microcurrent is barely perceptible, sometimes described as a faint tingling. LED is comfortable warmth.
No anaesthetic is needed. No downtime, no swelling, no flaking. Most clients return to work the same afternoon and apply makeup that evening with no issue.
Pre-treatment considerations
- Inform your therapist of any active retinoids, recent peels or microneedling
- Disclose any pacemaker, metal implants, or active cancer history (contraindications)
- Avoid heavy alcohol the day before to reduce facial flushing
- Arrive with clean skin if possible
Contraindications
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding
- Pacemakers and other implanted electronic devices
- Active cancer or recent chemotherapy
- Severe rosacea flare
- Active skin infection in the treatment area
- Recent injectable treatments - 14-day wait recommended
- Botox in the past two weeks (heat can dissipate the effect prematurely)
Pairing with other treatments
Lunchtime facelift slots into broader rejuvenation plans cleanly. It pairs well with monthly microdermabrasion, BioRePeel courses, and microneedling on alternating weeks. It is best avoided in the same week as deep resurfacing treatments to give the skin barrier full recovery between thermal interventions.
